Secondary Co-Curricular Sport
Secondary Co-Curricular Sport
Participating in sport and physical activity, provides infinite benefits for students: improving physical fitness, personal wellbeing, cognitive development and strengthening social connections. Our aim is to develop a strong SMC culture through our SMC sporting teams and Sports Talent Development Programs.
At St Michael’s College, students who participate in club or district sports teams are required to engage in co-curricular sports as a condition of enrolment. Our goal is to inspire students to prioritise their commitment to the College, fostering a strong sense of school pride and dedication alongside their athletic ambitions. Through collaborative discussions with the Co-Curricular Coordinator and Talent and Development Coordinator, we work to field our strongest teams against our most challenging opponents.
We encourage all students, parents/caregivers to read the Co-Curricular Sports Handbook below, before committing to any sport.
We offer a range of summer and winter sports for students to participate in:
Secondary Campus
Summer (Terms 1 and 4)
- Athletics Tennis (mixed)
- Badminton Touch Football (mixed)
- Basketball (girls) Volleyball
- Cricket (mixed) Water Polo
- Swimming
Winter (Terms 2 and 3)
- Badminton Netball
- Basketball (boys) Soccer
- Cross Country Table Tennis
- Football
St Michael’s College participates annually in School Sport SA Knockout Sports, with information about nominated teams communicated by the Co-curricular team before each event. We also participate in one-day carnivals for both team and individual events. Details for these can be found on the School Sport SA website and are shared by the Co-curricular team.
SMC participates in the annual Intercol competition against Trinity College, which includes football, soccer, basketball and netball.
As an inclusive school, there is also an opportunity for students with special needs to participate in sports carnivals and events organised by School Sports SA. Contact the Co-Curricular Coordinator to find out more.
Sports Talent Development Program
The Talent Development Sports Program at the Secondary Campus introduced in 2024, is designed to foster holistic growth by providing students with enriching and rewarding experiences that support their athletic development and excellence. Participants will engage in specialised training, skill development sessions, workshops, and educational programs to enhance their talents and reach their full potential.
Building on the success of our Elite Basketball program introduced in 2024, SMC is expanding the Program in 2025 to include even more sports and partnering with elite players and organisations to offer students a broader range of exciting opportunities.
Netball (Thunderbirds Partnership); Basektball (DJ Vasiljevic and 3J Academy); Soccer (Adelaide United stars Isaias Sanchez and Sarah Morgan); Golf (Grange Golf Club) and Leadership (Bloom Leadership with Australian Diamonds netball captain Natalie von Bertouch and ex-Port Adelaide AFL captain Tom Jonas).
