St Michael’s College Students Shine Bright Beyond the Classroom
St Michael’s College students have much to be proud of, with their many unique talents shining far beyond the classroom. From sporting success and apprenticeships, to public speaking and piano. As we reflect on the first weeks of Term 1, we congratulate our students on their accomplishments and applaud them for their outstanding contributions.
Elliot (Year 12)
Congratulations to Year 12 student Elliot, who has secured a School Based Apprenticeship (SBAT) as an Electrician with Daniel Rodato at West Elite Electrical. Daniel approached the College’s VET Office to find another apprentice after having a positive experience with his first employee from St Michael’s. Elliot’s work ethic and aptitude impressed Daniel during his trade assistant work over the holidays, earning himself an apprenticeship. Having also completed a Certificate II in Electrotechnology at Western Technical College in Year 11, Elliot will work alongside Daniel and attend trade school at TAFE SA, transitioning to a full-time apprenticeship upon completing Year 12.

U/18 State Basketballers
Six of our St Michael’s College basketballers have been selected to represent South Australia at the 2024 National Championships in April. We extend our congratulations to James (Year 12), Coco (Year 12), Zahlia (Year 11), Aidan (Year 10), Mollie (Year 11) and Paige (Year 11). We look forward to following their journey and have no doubt they will represent the College with pride.

Zak (Year 12)
In February, Year 12 student Zak participated in the finals for Lions Youth of the Year, south-west region. Hosted by the Brighton Lions Club and Cabra College, the event involved participating in an extended interview, two public impromptu questions, and a five-minute speech on a free-choice topic. Zak chose to address the audience on the economic impact of BRICS and was narrowly defeated, with a student from Westminster taking the lead with a 0.1 margin. The audience were impressed by his knowledge both of his specialist subject and wider social issues, as well as what an outstanding representative he was for St Michael’s College. Well done Zak!

Sienna (Year 12) and Paige (Year 11)
The 2024 Under 20 Ivor Burge National Basketball Championships was held from Tuesday 30 January to Sunday 4 February in Ballarat, Victoria with two St Michael’s College students making an appearance. We congratulate Paige (Year 11) who represented South Australia Blue and had a strong tournament, winning majority of minor rounds but just falling short of the Semi-Final. Year 12 student Sienna, represented South Australia Red who went on to play the Grand Final and came away with an impressive silver medal. Congratulations!

Year 12 student Finn has shown that with self-motivation and a passion for piano, hard work pays off. We congratulate Finn who has been selected to receive the Australian Music Examinations Board SA & NT Grade 7 (for Leisure) Scholarship for 2023 as a result of his outstanding result in his Grade 7 Piano Exam. Finn will be accepting the prestigious award at the upcoming Awards Ceremony at Elder Hall in April. Well done Finn!

Peter (Year 12)
Congratulations to Peter (Year 12) who recently won first place in the City Run marathon. Not only did Peter achieve a commendable personal best with a time of 3 hours, 29 minutes and 57 seconds, but also lent his support to a worthy cause. The event, organised by GoodRunnings, proudly supports Women’s Safety Services SA’s NADVS (Northern Adelaide Domestic Violence Services) to help local women and children rise above domestic violence and thrive. Peter’s accomplishment not only reflects his athletic talent but also highlights the impact that his participation has in contributing to the well-being of the community.
