Education/Qualifications

  • Teacher Registration (South Australia)
  • Teacher Accreditation in Catholic Education SA (including completion of the Grad Cert in Catholic Education within 5 years of appointment)
  • Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum
  • Approved Responding to Risks of Harm Abuse and Neglect Education and Care Training (RRHAN-EC)
  • Screening clearance and a police clearance to work in Catholic Education SA in accordance with current guidelines
  • Completion of required Core Training programs prior to, or as soon as possible after appointment

Director of Music (R-12)

St Michael’s College is seeking an inspiring and experienced Director of Music R-12 to lead our vibrant co-curricular music program across both Primary and Secondary campuses. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator and leader to shape the future of music at our College, fostering a culture of excellence, creativity, and inclusion.

As Director of Music, you will provide strategic leadership and direction for R-12 co-curricular music, ensuring music is a central and accessible part of College life. You will design and deliver dynamic programs, build and support a team of ensemble directors, and promote student engagement through ensembles, choirs, orchestras, bands and peer mentoring. You will coordinate major performances, competitions, and events, and work collaboratively with staff, parents, and the wider community to grow the profile and impact of music at St Michael’s College.

Applicants should be experienced Music educators and leaders, with proven track record in directing larger bands, ensembles, or orchestras.

Candidates should be committed to the mission and vision of St Michael’s College as a Catholic school in the Lasallian tradition, and have excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

Evidentiary Requirements

Essential

  • South Australian Teacher Registration
  • At least 5 years music teaching experience and prior leadership experience
  • Possess expertise working with a variety of bands, ensembles and/or orchestras
  • An experienced Band Director – Big Band, Concert Band, or Orchestra
  • Experienced in a similar role
  • Teacher Accreditation (Catholic Education SA)
  • First Aid Certificate relevant to the role requirements
  • Completion of Required Core Training programs prior to, or as soon as possible after appointment
  • Current and acceptable Working with Children Clearance & screening to work in Catholic Education SA
  • Current valid Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care certificante

Desirable

  • Role related qualifications or experience, relevant post-graduate degree or certificate qualifications
  • Skilled in directing choirs or experience working with choral repertoire and directors
