About our Primary Campus

The Primary Campus, located in Beverley, features State of the Art learning facilities and provides a holistic approach to learning and achievement

St Michael’s College strives to provide an inclusive environment where individual growth is achieved through engagement, opportunity and recognition, underpinned by a positive learning culture that is authentic, challenging and supportive.

We encourage each student to grow as a person in an environment where mutual respect and learning are held in the highest regard. In keeping with its Lasallian ethos, our curriculum embraces all key learning areas and gives special attention to literacy and numeracy. It is responsive to the changing demands of a modern, forward-looking education system and strives to give all students the opportunity to reach their full potential.

A holistic approach to student wellbeing.

Through exploring and engaging with the Primary Values, students develop skills and knowledge to understand how they learn, build positive relationships, and safely connect to the world around them, supported through our curriculum, integrated inquiry-based and experiential school learning approaches and research-based external provider programs.

Co-education transition.

The Primary Campus begun transitioning from single-sex (boys) to co-education in January 2021. Reception to Year 3 classes are currently co-ed, and by 2027 St Michael’s College will be a fully co-educational school from R to 12.

New Performing Arts Centre – 2023 Now Completed.

A new two-story building including a Performing Arts Centre comprising of a Music Centre, six Music Tutorial rooms, and Dance and Drama rooms, which will provide a specialist facility rarely seen in a Primary environment.

State of the Art learning facilities with our $20m investment

The Primary Campus has recently undertaken some exciting building initiatives, ensuring a state-of-the-art learning environment for our students. providing further developments to specialist facilities, coeducation opportunities and caters for the increasing enrolments at the Primary Campus.

Stage 2B works commenced in 2023 and will include a new two-story building includes a Performing Arts Centre comprising of a Music Centre, six Music Tutorial rooms, and Dance and Drama rooms, which will provide a specialist facility rarely seen in a Primary environment. The ground floor will also incorporate a new Canteen. The first floor provides four additional modern classrooms with breakout space for our Year 5 and 6 students. A new Visual Arts learning area will also be included in this upstairs space.

With a surge in enrolment demand for the Primary Campus, Stage 3 building works have been announced.

The Board have approved an earlier timeframe for the commencement of Stage 3 works as part of the Masterplan, which will enable the future growth and development of the Primary campus and realise an increase in enrolment numbers.

The recent $17.4m investment in facility improvements, combined with the introduction of co-education, has seen a surge in enrolment demand at the Primary Campus.

It is now opportunistic to bring forward the Stage 3 works which will enable the Primary campus to grow to include four classes in each year level, beginning with Reception in 2025.   This will increase enrolment capacity to 750 students by 2031, compared to current student numbers of 435, which will make it one of the largest Primary schools in South Australia.

New building works include:

  • Stage 1 – A contemporary state of the art Early Primary Centre with Nature Playground access from classrooms, an Innovation Centre incorporating a STEM space, Maker Space and Library facilities.
  • Nature Play areas have been established and provides students with rich play and outdoor learning facilities which complement existing well-established Kitchen Garden and Wetlands program.
  • Stage 2A – two new classrooms modelled on our newest Reception classrooms and breakout spaces, including wet areas to support a variety of key learning areas.
  • Stage 2B will include a new two-story building includes a Performing Arts Centre comprising of a Music Centre, six Music Tutorial rooms, and Dance and Drama rooms, which will provide a specialist facility rarely seen in a Primary environment. The ground floor will also incorporate a new Canteen. The first floor provides four additional modern classrooms with breakout space for our Year 5 and 6 students. A new Visual Arts learning area will also be included in this upstairs space.  Stage 2B is expected to be completed prior to the end of the 2023 school year.

The planned Stage 3 works will create: 4 additional general learning areas (GLA’s) with break out spaces; refurbishment of existing middle Primary GLA’s; new administration and staff centre.
