Celebrating Arts Week at the Secondary Campus
St Michael’s College energised The Arts in Week 6, celebrating our annual Arts Week.
Arts Week is a joyful celebration of the deep fulfilment we get from producing and performing art, as well as the strong relationships we forge when creating art together. Throughout the week, students were able to get involved in a range of activities including special guest workshops, excursions, performances and daily activities in the Anzac Courtyard.
Some of the highlights included a Visual Art workshop with Indigenous Artist David Booth, a visit to the d’Arenberg Cube in McLaren Vale, and the Drama Studio hosted Andrew Crupi for a special performance and workshop. There were plenty of opportunities for music and dance, with lunchtime karaoke, dance circles, student performances and a Silent Disco to end the week with Rocky Rocket bringing plenty of energy!
For our Music Department, the week culminated with two Music Focus Days where 22 of our College Ensembles took part in a two-day program to learn repertoire for their performances throughout the year.
“Arts Week 2024 at St Michael’s College burst into life with an electrifying performance by Indigenous artist and storyteller David Booth, whose mesmerising tales left the audience spellbound and inspired. Throughout the week, a myriad of artistic experiences unfolded, highlighted by an extraordinary journey for Year 10 Art & Design students to the renowned d’Arenberg Cube in McLaren Vale, where they immersed themselves in the surreal world of Salvador Dali’s exhibition. Meanwhile, under the expert guidance of artist Kate O’Reilly, pottery workshops transformed clay into works of art, the Cartoon Guy sketched lively caricatures, and Lucy Timbrell led an enthralling printmaking workshop. With each event, Arts Week exuded creativity, demonstrating the power and significance of The Arts in our lives. It provided a platform for showcasing a diverse array of talents and offered students unforgettable experiences that ignited their passion for artistic expression.”
