Congratulations
GOVERNOR’S CIVICS AWARD
Congratulations to Year 12 Legal Studies students, Charlotte Brown (12PC-01) and James Kortessis (12PC06) on receiving a Governor’s Civics Award for 2021. Their submissions related to civics and citizenship and contributing to civil society. Through this task, students were able to plan, implement and evaluate ways of contributing to civil society at local, national and global levels.
Students were required to submit a research paper on a contemporary legal issue and make recommendations for legal reform. As part of their major Inquiry Task for Stage 2 Legal Studies, James researched issues surrounding the age of criminal responsibility and how raising the age would impact youth crime rates. Charlotte investigated the current crisis of ambulance ramping in South Australia and researched ways the state government can prevent further risks to public health.
For their outstanding inquiries, James and Charlotte will be officially presented with their award at Government House in early 2022. They will also participate in a round table session with Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia.

MURIEL MATTERS AWARD
Congratulations to Year 12 student Nadia Spaccavento (12PC-07) who has been awarded the Muriel Matters Award. This award recognises outstanding students who are committed to making real change in the community.
Nadia was integral to the refurbishment of College bathrooms and her advice was always meticulously considering the needs of students. Nadia was also involved in shifting student culture in uniform, whereby girls were encouraged to wear tailored pants if they wished. Nadia’s voice was essential in the consideration of this initiative and her role modelling of impeccable wearing of the College uniform was instrumental to creating positivity in this regard.
