Year 7 Retreat Reflections

Our Year 7 students reflected on their Year 7 Retreat Experience…

On Thursday of Week 10, the Year 7 students were lucky enough to attend our first ever Retreat at St Michael’s College, alongside our Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 College Leaders and Captains.

The College Leaders were amazing. We had so much fun with the tasks and activities they set for us based on our Lasallian school values: Community, Challenge, Choice, and Communication. The College Leaders all had outstanding speaking skills and were excellent at communicating with our cohort.

No words can express our gratitude towards all the staff and teachers that gave up their time to come on this Retreat, and Sharina and Mr Dempsey for organising this fun-filled day. Lastly to all the College Leaders for giving up their precious school time to come and make our first Retreat at St Michael’s College special.

Matthew 5:16 reads “Let your light shine before everyone so, they may see your good works and glorify your father who is in heaven.”

On Thursday we attended the Year 7 Retreat. This day was all about team building and the core values of the school – community, challenge, choice and communication. Our Peer Support Leaders and College Leaders ran the day. We engaged in four activities; all the activities had a meaning or connection to the core values. One of these activities was the banana split game to get us warmed up, which led to a game where we were asked how we’d survive on an island. This was to help with communication and we worked as a community. This day was a great way to make connections and it was an overall good day.

The Year 7 Retreat day was a great experience, and I’m so grateful that I got the opportunity to go. The day was filled with lots of fun activities and team building games centered around Lasallian values. As a cohort, we also got to learn a lot of important life lessons around the topic of teamwork, and it was so much fun learning from the older students at the school. The main lesson I got out of the day is that teamwork is very important. If you can’t work as a team, then you are making everything so much harder. Overall, the Year 7 Retreat day was amazing, and remember, there is no “I” in team.

It was a good opportunity to make new friends and to meet other people in our year level. The activities were engaging, and we think lots of people enjoyed those activities. There was a lot of good equipment that we could use at lunch and recess. The Year 10 Peer Support Leaders were helpful and encouraging, they got involved in the activities and were really nice. The pizza was super tasty as well. The Year 12 College Leaders helped a lot as well. I think that we learnt a lot about our school values, community, challenge, and choice. So overall it was a great Retreat.
