STEM: Old Scholar Visit
2018 Old Scholar Christian pursued an electrical engineering degree and co-founded his own business called Ortomi. This innovative venture focuses on creating small, customisable companion robots that exhibit unique moods and respond to various actions. Since its inception, Ortomi has achieved remarkable success, having sold thousands of their robots to nearly forty different countries worldwide.
Recently, Christian visited the College to showcase his incredible creations, the Ortomi robots, and to explore the possibility of establishing a STEM partnership with our institution. This partnership would enable students to develop their companion robots using a wide range of STEM-based skills.
Christian attributes part of his success to the invaluable skills he acquired at St Michael’s College. He expresses deep gratitude towards John Edwards for teaching him essential Photoshop skills, which played a vital role in bringing his business vision to life. Additionally, Christian acknowledges the pivotal role played by Mark Stevens, who imparted crucial CAD (Computer-Aided Design) skills, enabling him to transform his ideas into tangible prototypes and products.
Christian’s accomplishments in such a short time since leaving the College are truly impressive. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to collaborate with his company in the dynamic field of STEM. Together, we aim to foster innovation and inspire students to explore the exciting possibilities of robotics and engineering.
