Making a Mark – Unleashing Creativity in the Art Room!

The Art Gallery visits Reception students…

Our Reception students recently had an exciting and enriching experience in Art as Amanda from the Art Gallery of South Australia led an expert incursion called ‘Making a Mark’, taking our young artists on a journey of creativity and self-expression. Over the course of the incursion, three classes had the opportunity to participate in six learning stations, each offering unique and engaging art activities.

The art room buzzed with excitement as the children delved into the various art stations. They explored a range of techniques and materials, leaving their mark on the canvas of imagination. Let’s take a closer look at the fantastic activities that made this incursion an unforgettable one.

  1. Rubbings: Students discovered the magic of textures as they made beautiful rubbings of various objects, experiencing the different patterns and surfaces beneath their fingers.
  2. Newspaper Tear Out: Recycling and art merged seamlessly in this station as students cut and tore newspaper pieces to create intriguing collages.
  3. Observational Drawings: Nature’s wonders came to life as children keenly observed flowers and leaves, translating their intricate details onto paper.
  4. Secret Code Drawings: Unlocking their creativity, students used crayons and watercolours to create secret messages and codes, turning ordinary drawings into mysterious artworks.
  5. Taking a Line for a Walk: With a pen in hand and a mind full of imagination, the children went on a journey of lines, creating spontaneous and abstract masterpieces.
  6. Class Mural with Paint Slicks: The pinnacle of fun, the class mural station allowed students to collaborate and express their artistic flair using vibrant paint slicks, resulting in a colourful and awe-inspiring masterpieces.

From the joyous laughter to the focused concentration, the photos captured the magic of the experience. It was evident that the children truly enjoyed themselves, embracing their creativity with enthusiasm and passion.

Amanda’s expertise and interactive approach encouraged our budding artists to explore their potential, fostering a love for art that will undoubtedly continue to grow.

The ‘Making a Mark’ incursion has indeed left a lasting impression on our young learners. We look forward to nurturing their artistic journey further and witnessing the beautiful masterpieces they will create in the future. Let’s continue to support and encourage our students to make their mark in the world of art and beyond!

Happy creating!
