Stem Club – Primary Campus

We now have a TechGirls Club at the Primary Campus. This exclusive club is for Year 2 girls that love STEM learning. Ms Tyrwhitt takes the girls at lunch times on Mondays for learning with robotics. 3D Design, prototyping and other future minded technologies using thinking, collaboration, machines, digital technologies and making skills. This happens in the Innovation Centre in our Makerspace. The focus so far has been on using BlueBots to be controlled with iPads and will be an introduction into coding, programming and obstacle course design. We cover cybersafe behaviours in these sessions to ensure that this extended learning opportunity is secure for our learners.

It is very important to advocate for girls to become involved in STEM learning at an early age in Australia for several reasons:

1. Addressing gender imbalance: Currently, there is a gender imbalance in the STEM workforce, with women being underrepresented. Encouraging girls to pursue STEM education and careers can help to address this imbalance and create a more diverse and inclusive workforce.

2. Meeting future demands: STEM skills are becoming increasingly important in the modern workforce. By encouraging girls to engage in STEM learning, we can ensure that Australia has a skilled workforce that can meet future demands and remain globally competitive.

3. Closing the gender pay gap: Careers in STEM fields tend to offer high-paying jobs. By encouraging girls to pursue these fields, we can help to close the gender pay gap and create more financial equality between genders.

4. Encouraging innovation: Girls bring unique perspectives to STEM fields, which can encourage innovation and new ideas. Encouraging girls to become involved in STEM learning can lead to new breakthroughs and advancements in science and technology.

5. Personal growth: STEM learning can help girls develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, which can be beneficial in all areas of life. Encouraging girls to pursue STEM education can help them reach their full potential and achieve their career goals.

In summary, advocating for girls to become involved in STEM learning at an early age in Australia is crucial for addressing gender imbalance, meeting future demands, closing the gender pay gap, encouraging innovation, and promoting personal growth. This is why we have Techgirls and they are superheroes!
