2022 SMC MAD donation – $50,000 – New Security Wall and Play Area at La Salle Girls’ High School Gokhuwal Faisalabad in Pakistan.
New Security Wall and Play Area, La Salle Girls’ High School Gokhuwal Faisalabad, Pakistan
In 1996, Christian residents in Gokuwal, a modest area on Faisalabad’s outskirts in Pakistan, asked the De La Salle Brothers to start a school for their children. These kids were missing out on an education. Over time, they acquired more land surrounding the original building, allowing for a steady increase in students and facilities. Finally, in 2022, the last piece of land was acquired, enabling the construction of a security wall and plans for new classrooms, bathrooms, and a playground.
Building the security wall was followed by leveling the land and preparing it for development. The funding of AUD 50,000, raised through efforts of St Michael’s College staff and students as well as De La Salle College Malvern’s staff and students, this became possible.
Currently, La Salle Girls’ High School has around 400 students. It offers co-education for preschool to Grade 7, and high school education for girls, with a few boys, in Grades 8-10. The school primarily serves the underprivileged neighborhood but is also attracting students from the nearby gated community, diversifying the student body and contributing to the school’s finances.
