Celebrating the success of girls at St Michael’s
Our Old Scholar community is an important part of our history, and a significant milestone last year was welcoming back the first cohort of Year 8 girls to attend St Michael’s College for their reunion. It was reported at that time “the girls strived to be the best they can be”, and at the reunion we heard stories of the initiative to keep in contact, to maintain friendships and to reach towards their goals and dreams.
St Michael’s hasn’t looked back! We continue to celebrate success of the girls of St Michael’s. We provide students with a broad range of opportunities, skills, values and knowledge to become successful lifelong learners.
We celebrate success in all areas: sports, STEM, the Arts, VET and career development, all curriculum areas, academic awards, leadership opportunities and mentoring programs, and we support our girls to challenge themselves in embracing different experiences and celebrate success in their own way. Whatever the calling, we’re here to support each students’ unique journey towards a life of exploration, fulfillment and success.
We’ve seen some wonderful success recently with a range of our students, here are just a few to highlight :
- A huge end to the winter Co-curricular Sport season – SMC had these girls’ teams in the Grand Final: Open A1 Netball; Open B2 Netball; Year 9A1 Netball; Year 8A1; Netball; Year 7A1 Netball; Middle B Soccer.
- Open Netball team won three Grand Finals this year, at the Statewide Knockout Netball Championships, defeating Henley High (29-27) in the Grand Final. This was off the back of their SACSSGSA Grand Final win against Sacred Heart College, along with winning the Waverly International Netball Carnival at the end of Term 2 in Melbourne.
- Open Girls Basketball team defeated Henley High in the Statewide Knockout Basketball Grand Final.
- Girls Middle Soccer team have had a remarkable season, taking home the premiership, and were undefeated all season with an 11-0 record, we think there could be some future Matildas stars on the horizon!
- Open Girls Knockout Football team also reached the Grand Final for the fourth consecutive year!
- Our inaugural SALA Exhibition, ‘Divergent’, was a resounding success, showcasing the remarkable talents of our Year 7 to Year 12 Visual Arts students, while highlighting the significance of art in bridging connections and shaping meaningful experiences at the College.
- 35% of students undertaking VET courses are girls, across 35 different industries. Some undertake traditional trade-based VET courses such as construction, electrotechnology, plumbing, hairdressing and engineering. Other students are following their passion in some really interesting VET areas.
- Our recent College Musical, ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘Pulse 15 Music Showcase’, showcased the talent of our female students in the Performing Arts with some leading roles.
- 2022 Academic achievements included Holly Dini our College Dux and Bridie Dolan who received a Governor’s Commendation.
St Michael’s hasn’t looked back! We continue to celebrate success of the girls of St Michael’s.
