2012

Over $20m is invested in major building projects and capital development, particularly IT.

The Secondary Campus welcomes new art classrooms, IT suites, a Music Centre, the MacKillop Centre, and ANZAC courtyard.

2013

St Michael’s appoints a new Brother Visitor, new Chair of the College Board (and first lay and female Chair), as well as a new Principal.

In April, Mr John Foley becomes the second lay Principal, continuing the wonderful legacy of those who came before. He brings strong Lasallian values and a vision, commitment, and energy to lead the College into the future.

2014

Primary and secondary students, together with staff, join to celebrate mass in the Secondary Campus Founders Hall – the first time that both campuses are aligned at such an important event.

2016

On Wednesday 20 April Superior General of the De La Salle Brothers, Br Robert Schieler acknowledged with joy and gratitude John Boeyen’s Affiliation into the De La Salle Brothers worldwide and spoke of the outstanding collaboration with the Institute and the quality of his personal life inspired by Lasallian spirituality.

Catholic Education SA announces the decision for Year 7 to become the first year of secondary schooling with the changeover to occur in 2019.

2017

To enable increased capacity at the Secondary Campus the decision to construct the new Year 12 area on the site of the Brothers' House.

Demolition and construction of the new $12.7m Lasallian Education Centre commences.

2018

Transition of Year 7 to secondary school commences. 50 (two classes) boys from the SMC Primary Campus transitioned for this first year.

The Lasallian Education Centre is officially opened with a display installed to commemorate the Brothers presence. The ceremony was celebrated on Monday 25 May, and officially opened on (8 August 2018). Blessed by Fr Paul Cashen and Fr John Rate MSC. Opened by Br David Hawke (Brother Visitor), Mrs Marie Dorrington OAM (Board Chair) and Mr John Foley (Former Principal).

Staircase mural, designed by Allan Sumner, is installed at the Secondary Campus (MSC Building). The indigenous design depicts the coming together of the Kaurna People and their lands with the SMC community. The staircase leading to the MSC building also depicts the importance of respect, reconciliation and the recognition of our past and future on this land.

Maroon and Blue Community Newsletter is reinstated after a 19-year hiatus.

2019

The full Year 7 cohort commences at the Secondary Campus. First cohort - 272 students, 11 pastoral classes.

The St Michael’s College, Adelaide Board and College Leadership Team, with the endorsement of the De La Salle Brothers, South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools and Catholic Education South Australia, formally announced that St Michael’s College will offer Primary co-education, beginning with Reception from 2021.

Coinciding with the above, the College also announced that the Stage 1 Early Primary and Innovation Centre is underway, catering for increased enrolments and the ongoing enrichment of a quality learning environment that is innovative and adaptable to the current and future educational needs of students. Demolition begins in November.

New Mission and Vision Statement and Strategic Plan introduced. The set of five strategies provide scope to bring the Mission and Vision to reality and is designed to foster an approach to strategy that can handle the challenges of increased complexity and rapid change. It allows continual assessment of the school environment so the College can react with great agility, speed and creativity.

The Primary Campus Nature Playground officially opened in August.

Sustainability Program: installation of over 800 solar panels and replacement of 1500 LED lights across both campuses made possible in partnership with Verdia and BankSA.

Army Cadets unit re-established following an in-principle partnership with the Australian Army Cadets.
